The Daff

The Daff or Dafli started life as a large-framed drum in the shape of the modern tambourine but without the bells. It is Persian-Kurdish in origin and is known as the national instrument of Pakistan, but widely played over the whole Indian subcontinent.

Who can forget Raj Kapoor in Shree 420 and Jis desh mein ganga rehta hai…his Dafli playing started a movement that has never stopped. Like many percussion instruments we dare you to keep your feet still. The beat from this drum is fast and wild. We find the beautiful hand-made dafli we keep here are calling out to many in the circle of shamans, meditators and those who have been feeling lost.
