The Dilruba
The Dilruba was a portable version of the Taus..which translates to Peacock in ancient Persian. The Taus was invented by Guru Hargobindji.
The Dilruba was carried by Sikhs in the time of the 10th Guru Sri Gobind Singhji. It was made famous in the west by the Beatles with George Harrison playing it alongside a host of other Indian instruments on the song ‘Within You Without You’.
An instrument first thought of and then made by a spiritual being has its own purity of sound. It can be argued it does not have the power of the Sitar or the Sarangi to which its sound has been likened but we find it more in tune with the songs that are sung by human beings inside. The bliss you feel and the Bhakti of its notes resonate with the flow of life that is constantly calling us to know own divinity.
The power of Dilruba is that the sound lives not in its loudness but in the ability to make still all who listen with their hearts, hear with their soul and dance with their shadows.
