The Shruti

The Shruti Box can be traced back to China and the ‘Chinese Shang’, an ancient wind instrument that is still in use today. It makes sound when air passes through small bamboo reeds. These free reeds later led to a new family of Western Instruments including the Harmonium which was in fact invented in the west before making its journey to India.

The Shruti Box was adapted from the Harmonium. This new, smaller instrument was designed for the sole purpose of producing sustained notes to accompany singers and musicians becoming a true world instrument.

The Shruti Box has gained a wide following amongst singer songwriters and has now been extended and used by meditators within their practises to create balance and open up to their stillness.  Crystal therapists want them for restoring the vibrations of their crystals and healers play them to help ease discord and re-introduce resonance within the mind and body of those they help. This instrument is for the creatives of this world and helps us facilitate the oneness and healing of music.
