The Surbahar
The Surbahar is sometimes known as a bass Sitar given it has a lower tone. Depending on the instrument’s size, it is usually pitched two to five whole steps below the standard Sitar depending on its size
This beautiful instrument looks too delicate to sing its song. When in the hands of the faithful its power and range is felt in every note, the vibrations of the strings stir the soul, and one finds the mind quietens as the heart opens. When we meditate, we listen to the deep tones of this instrument and we can hear what our heart is saying as our thoughts decrease.
